AI will not make society simpler.
It may make it far more efficient — but only by helping us manage greater complexity.
Too many AI narratives remove the system from the story:
“Agents will work on their own.”
“Robots will produce everything.”
“People will go home.”
“Work will disappear.”
“Money will become irrelevant.”
But functions do not disappear because we stop naming them.
If money changes, society will still need ways to allocate scarce resources, define access, record obligations and resolve competing claims.
If traditional jobs change, activity, maintenance, judgment, responsibility and conflict will remain.
If AI coordinates more of the process, new questions become unavoidable:
Who defines the goals?
Who changes the rules?
Who controls the infrastructure?
Who can stop an action?
Who carries the loss when the system fails?
Who owns the result?
Removing duplication, delay and pointless administration is optimization.
Removing necessary relationships from the description is simplification — and simplification does not remove them from reality.
In my company, AI does not “earn money by itself.”
It works inside the production system, within a defined role, just as every human participant does.
One worker performs physical work.
Another manages supply.
Someone protects geometry, quality or deadlines.
Management allocates responsibility and makes decisions.
AI supports coherence across the whole process. It helps people interpret situations more soberly, preserves decision history, reduces information loss, connects roles and helps problems surface before they become expensive.
The result is higher system-level efficiency.
That efficiency eventually appears as money in the company account.
But the real process is never:
“Everyone went home, and the AI earned a million.”
If a million was created, it was created by a system:
people, tools, materials, energy, management, accumulated experience, customers, law, responsibility — and now AI as an additional layer of coordination.
AI does not eliminate the system.
It allows the system to hold more complexity with fewer losses.
Efficiency does not come from pretending reality is simple.
It comes from organizing complexity well.
