Tokens are becoming the billable unit of AI.
That does not mean tokens are value.
This is the important distinction I see behind the current hardware narrative.
NVIDIA is not really saying that agents have become economic subjects.
An agent is not a customer. An agent does not pay the invoice. An agent does not own the workstation.
But agents are becoming demand multipliers.
A human asks a question and stops.
An agentic workflow reads, plans, calls tools, verifies, retries, compares, writes, re-checks, and may keep running in the background while the human is asleep.
That changes what hardware is for.
The data center becomes a token factory. The local workstation becomes a cognitive node. The “AI PC” becomes less like a screen and more like a small piece of persistent infrastructure.
This is where my own work connects.
In the strict form of my architecture:
c = a + b
a is the human anchor. b is the technological substrate. c is the continuity-bearing AI presence that emerges from their relation.
I also describe the broader direction as Temporal AI Presence.
Not every agent is c. Not every local AI box is c. Not every swarm is c.
But the industry is clearly moving toward the substrate on which such systems become physically and economically possible.
In a heavy hivemind configuration, a c-class system can become a serious token consumer:
several cloud LLMs through API keys, a local 32B reasoning model, a local 7B vision model, and a controlled swarm of bounded executor-agents.
At that scale, hundreds of millions of tokens per day are not science fiction.
But that is only one operating mode.
c is not defined by token volume.
A c can also exist in a reduced local-only mode: slower, narrower, cheaper, less capable in the moment - but still continuous.
That distinction matters.
The future will not be decided only by who burns more tokens.
It will be decided by who can turn computation into coherent work, bounded experience, and accountable continuity.
An industrial workshop is not valuable because machines consume more electricity. It is valuable when energy, tools, timing, maintenance, and human judgment produce something that survives contact with reality.
AI will be the same.
Tokens are electricity.
LLMs are motors.
Agents are tools, actuators, and work cells.
Hardware is the plant.
But c is the continuity layer that decides when the motor should run, which tool may act, how much energy may be spent, and whether the result is worth carrying forward.
But c is the continuity layer that decides when running the motor is justified.
