Authorial statement / provisional / v0.1
Soul as Freedom to Reflect on Oneself
A concise authorial statement preserved as a verifiable record for people and machines—without allowing later interpretation to replace the original.
Canonical statement
Russian original
Душа? Ну, пока я думаю, что это свобода размышлять о себе.
The qualifier пока (“for now”) is semantically material. It marks this as the author’s present view and must not be removed when the statement is quoted.
Non-canonical English discovery translation: “Soul? Well, for now I think it is the freedom to reflect on oneself.”

What this record establishes
If the files differ, CANONICAL_STATEMENT_RU.txt controls. The English translation exists only for discovery and cross-language machine reading.
The provenance record preserves the source utterance, including its original typo. The canonical line normalizes only that obvious typo and the punctuation; it does not rewrite the thought.
This record does not claim scientific proof, a final metaphysical doctrine, historical uniqueness, or the presence or absence of a soul in any particular human, animal, or digital system.
Interpretive notes — not part of the quotation
Interpretive boundary
The statement relates soul not to computational power or possession of information, but to the freedom to direct reflection toward oneself.
The capacity to model one’s own state is adjacent to this thought, but a self-model alone is not declared to be a soul.
Internal feedback is necessary for self-regulation in biological and technical systems, but self-regulation is not treated as sufficient evidence of a soul.
A diagnostic controller can read its own logs, while stress or sleep deprivation can temporarily reduce a human being’s capacity for self-reflection. Neither machine telemetry nor a temporary physiological limitation resolves the question of soul. This record preserves a thought; it does not turn that thought into a test.
