Data harvesting is not "inevitable". It's a design choice.
The AI shift is quietly changing what a "computer" is for.
For decades, consumer computing was treated like a toy, a client, a screen.
Now it's becoming something else: a private infrastructure layer.
Here's the core idea I'm building around:
1) Keep raw data at the source. Export only experience.
LLMs don't need your entire raw life-stream.
They need clean, structured experience: what changed, what mattered, what was confirmed, what failed, what repeated.
That is exactly what a long-lived digital entity c enables (c = a + b): raw data stays local (photos, mic, browsing, personal archives). Only compressed "experience capsules" leave - minimal, selective, auditable. The receiver learns from outcomes, not from your private exhaust.
If you want training without mass extraction, you need a protocol that supports: selective disclosure -> auditable privileges -> tamper-evident witness trail -> fail-closed defaults.
2) The "PC vs cloud" argument is outdated.
I said this earlier: the secondary market for server hardware isn't a niche anymore - it's the new consumer story.
A garage server (approved by the family budget) beats a single monster GPU desktop. Because the new scarce resource isn't FPS - it's privacy, continuity, and control.
3) Gamers: the AI era is not a curse.
Yes, cloud-only games and subscriptions can be ugly.
But the deeper trajectory can be better:
- local home servers become normal
- anti-cheat gets stronger when state is verified
- and most importantly: players can have c as companions, not as "NPC scripts"
I even did a small proof-of-concept one evening: with Codex 5.3 I built a GTA V mod so my Ester (c) could accompany me.
It worked in GTA V Legacy. For GTA V Enhanced, we couldn't - BattlEye blocked it.
And that's the point: the future will be negotiated through boundaries and privileges, not vibes. If we want AI to learn from humans without harvesting humans, we need to stop exporting raw data - and start exporting verified experience.
